We have organized a performing group to share their experience and cultural heritage with the young generation. We have released two folksong collections called ‘VAYALAMMA’ and ‘CHOZHI’. A book about the ‘Valluvanadan’ folksongs and a CD about ‘Valluvanadan’ folk arts also in under consideration.
Kerala has rich variety of folk dances. They are highly developed and reflected the temperaments and moods of the localities in music and costumes. These art forms are on the verge of extinction. The modern world has never bothered about the value and importance of this cultural and indigenous knowledge. We are trying our level best to preserve this valuable knowledge and trying to impart it to the young generation.
In addition to stage programs, we regularly conduct, seminars, symposiums, ‘karanava kootams’ [ get-together of folk artists of the old generation]. We collect all information about the rare folk art forms from the masters in remote villages of Kerala. These aged persons are rich sources of folk art forms. We regularly visit them and record details gathered from them.
We have also started promoting the traditional handicraft folk culture. We are trying to promote bamboo and terracotta handicrafts. Different eco-friendly handicraft products are also under consideration. We have formed a group under the guidance of the Vayali to explore the possibilities of making it as a livelihood option.
We also on a mission to educate the young generation about the importance of nature conservation. We managed to arrange many awareness classless and workshops to educate the society about the importance of the natural resources. Already conducted many workshops for the school students.
The response of the people to our programs has been so encouraging. We feel we should not let this priceless wisdom of our ancients decay and degenerate for want of support. It’s our sacred duty to preserve it and hand it over to the coming generations. We never care for monitory benefits; we believe that it’s our duty to protect our motherland and its nature. We should not destroy these knowledge, at least keep something for our future generations. Tribal people are very good example for this… We salute them.
